Family and friends of Stephen McKie, 58, of Ditchingham, near Beccles, pay tribute to him after his death in A145 collision
The family and friends of a ‘true gentleman’ who died in a crash on a busy road in August have paid tribute.
Stephen McKie, 58, died as a result of the injuries he suffered when his motorcycle was involved in a collision with a Ford Transit van at the junction of the A145 and Cucumber Lane, Beccles, at around 3.30pm in August 12.
Mr McKie of Ditchingham, also known as Stevie or Des, was a passionate biker and a ‘loving dad and stepdad’ to daughter Nikita and stepsons Leon and Evan.
Nikita said: “A passion dad had throughout his life was motorbiking, he loved his motorbikes.
“We take comfort knowing that although he left us too soon it was while doing something he loved.”
Leon and Evan said: “There are no words to express what you meant to me and for being the dad that you didn't have to be.
“We may not have been related by blood but you were the best stepdad I could have had.
“A beautiful person with a wonderful heart and I miss you so much.”
Mr McKie’s friend Nigel said: “Whether you knew Des for two years or for 30 years, I think we all agree he was the kindest, funniest most wonderful human being ever.
“We all agree that our lives are much better for having him as our friend.
Eddie, another of Mr McKie’s friends, said: “There was only one Stevie in the world and anybody that ever met him will know he was the kindest, friendliest man with a wicked personality that only Stevie had.
“He will be missed by so many and can never be replaced. There will always be a void in my life without him.
“Stevie I miss our riding adventures – keep riding mate, one day I will catch you up.”
Mr McKie’s mother Dorothy said: “Stephen, son to Dorothy and Fred McKie, dad to Nikita, uncle To Courtney, brother to Karen and Jane, brother-in-law to Michael – Stephen will be greatly missed.”
Anyone with information about the incident should contact the joint Norfolk and Suffolk serious collision investigation unit, quoting reference CAD 233 of August 12.
