Five of Suffolk’s best pizza places to grab a slice, with locations in Bury St Edmunds, Woodbridge, Beccles and Southwold
Did you know that this week is National Pizza Week?
Organised by the Pizza, Pasta & Italian Association (PAPA), it aims to celebrate one of the world’s favourite meals.
To mark the occasion in our little slice of the country, SuffolkNews has compiled a list of the top five pizza places in Suffolk, based on TripAdvisor reviews.
Oakfired at The Royal Oak – Beccles
With the maximum five-out-of-five stars, The Royal Oak, in Ravensmere, Beccles, is our first eatery – which offers what are considered some of the best pizzas in the region.
The pub has been praised for its quality of food, service, value for money, and atmosphere.
One happy reviewer said it was the only place to have real Neapolitan pizza across Norfolk and Suffolk.
They added: “We've been here a few times and it is definitely the best pizza we can have around. Desserts are also really good. A must try.”
Another reviewer said: “These guys are the best at what they do from start to finish.
“The service team are awesome and clearly trained to a high standard by the owners. The food is incomparable to any other restaurant.”
A third said: “Fantastic pizza. It captures the true Italian flavours. Recommend the restaurant fully. Had very enjoyable chat with the owners.”
Verve – Bury St Edmunds
On the other side of Suffolk, we find our next entry.
Also with five stars, Verve, in Woolhall Street, Bury St Edmunds, has raving reviews from the public – although it’s more than just pizza on offer.
The bar has also been praised for its quality of food, service, value for money, and atmosphere.
One reviewer said: “Verve is one of the best places within Bury St Edmunds to go to if you’re looking for delicious food, great service and that chill vibe where you just feel super comfortable.
“If cocktails are your thing then they have a great menu to choose from that will suit your taste.
“It has fantastic bar staff as well as their chef, who makes the best pizzas in Bury.
“I’m never disappointed coming here with my family & friends. Thanks for always making our time spent here so special.”
Another five-star review said: “Another lovely night at Verve, we shared a few nibbles and a couple of pizzas.
“The service was great, very relaxed, nothing was too much. We also couldn’t believe how many cocktails they have on happy hour.”
The Woodyard – Woodbridge
Third, with four-and-a-half stars on TripAdvisor, is the Woodyard, in Tide Mill Way, Woodbridge.
This Italian eatery has the public hungry for more, offering Neapolitan pizza, gelato and cocktails.
One reviewer said it was the best pizza they ever had.
They added: “The set up is modern and friendly.
“You can't book, but waits are never long and if they are, there's a waiting area where you can have drinks.
“We got takeaway the first night after a trip to London and it was just fantastic! All three of us loved the pizza and the crusts were fabulous! We went back again the next night and ate in.
“This time, we saw they offered duos for the crusts and well this just sealed it as the best pizza place ever!!
“The service was brilliant, and the overall experience was just really enjoyable.”
Another reviewer described it as a ‘great spot’ near the River Deben.
However, reception on some of its food, such as a panzanella salad, was more mixed. One reviewer said it didn’t come with bread.
Enzo’s Pizzeria – Southwold
As one of Suffolk’s poshest towns, Southwold is sure to have some decent food on offer.
Enzo’s Pizzeria, in High Street, has four-and-a-half stars on TripAdvisor.
One reviewer said the pizzeria had fabulous pizza, and offered a warm welcome.
She said: “As always, our visits to Enzo’s (twice a week) were great experiences.
“As well as excellent food and wine, Enzo’s hospitality is second to none and the limited number of diners ensures that he is able to provide a really personal touch. Highly recommended.”
Another said: “Enzo’s is always our favourite place to visit when in Southwold. This year was no different.
“Enzo makes our experience, he remembers us every year and is so friendly and welcoming. The food and drinks were fantastic, and we can never fault our trips to Enzo’s.”
Suffolk Stonehouse – Bungay
Finally, to Bungay, where we find the last entry on our list.
Suffolk Stonehouse, in St Mary’s Street, also boasts a four-and-a-half star rating.
Specialising in pizza, this eatery has been described as a local gem.
One resident said: “Proper local gem of a place. Lovely laid back vibe, with a great playlist in the background and a nice dynamic of locals and visitors coming and going. The staff are friendly and efficient.”
Another happy reviewer said: “Amazing food. Thin base pizzas with local ingredients, fresh and tasty. Great service, went out of the way to make a birthday celebration memorable! A well deserved five stars.”
