30 homes could be built at former St Benedict's Catholic Lower School and St Louis Middle School site in St Andrew’s Street South, Bury St Edmunds

Plans for 30 new homes at a former school site in Bury St Edmunds have been submitted.

The proposal from St Benedicts Group could see the houses built at the former St Benedict's Catholic Lower School in St Andrew's Street South.

An application from M & D Developments for nine homes at the premises was approved by West Suffolk Council in May 2021.

The school was previously St Louis Catholic Middle School and it has been empty since 2016.

The school buildings have since been demolished following safety concerns resulting from vandalism and arson.

The proposed land for the homes forms part of the original grounds to St Andrews Castle which is a large private house built around 1820 to the north of the site.
