A-levels 2025: Live updates as Suffolk students receive results




A-level students will no doubt be experiencing a mixture of nerves and excitement as they find out their results today.

Follow our coverage to find out how schools and sixth forms across the area have performed, including Bury St Edmunds, Stowmarket, Haverhill, Sudbury and Thetford.

There are many options for students who don’t get into their chosen university, for example using clearing. Clearing is a system by Ucas whereby students can apply for a course at universities that still have places to fill.

St Benedict’s Catholic School in Bury St Edmunds

At St Benedict’s Catholic School, a total of 80 students sat A-levels, with 79 per cent of grades A*-C. The overall pass rate was 98 per cent.

Headteacher Imogen Senior said: “We are once again delighted with the results that our students have achieved this year, and these reflect their hard work, determination and ability.

“Our 80 students have made wonderful progress across their courses and as a result they have attained very highly.

“A quarter of all grades awarded were A*/A grades, 54 per cent of grades achieved were A*/A or B, 79 per cent A*-C and the overall pass rate was 98 per cent.

“We were particularly pleased to see our first cohort of A-level classics and art history perform well.”

Abbeygate Sixth Form College in Bury St Edmunds

Of the 507 A-level students at Abbeygate Sixth Form College, 75.1 per cent secured an A* to C grade – an increase from 70.7 last year.

The overall pass rate was 98.2 per cent, a 0.5 per cent increase year on year.

Stuart Small, group deputy principal, said he was delighted with the results and congratulated those who achieved their desired grades.

“All students have worked exceptionally hard, regardless of if today has been the best day of their lives or if they had bump in the road, and we are here to support them if they need us,” he said.

“I’m delighted for them and we have a lot of students who have done very well to get where they have.

“I’m really proud of all my staff – not just teachers – who always go the extra mile for students. It is about building those connections with students that are so important in helping them move forward and achieve their ambitions.”

Thurston Community College

A headteacher has wished her 2025 A-level cohort 'every happiness’ as she celebrated their achievements for this academic year.

Thurston Sixth Form welcomed back its 89-strong group to its Beyton Campus for results day today, with the majority of students having secured a university place or apprenticeship.

The cohort had an overall pass rate of 99 per cent, of which 71 per cent achieved A* to C grades.

Principal Maéve Taylor said: “We’ve had a fabulous group of students who have given back to the community as well as doing well academically – they’ve really raised the profile of the school.

“They have been role models and inspirational to younger students. They’re all going off to do fabulous things, we’re really proud and it’s an exciting moment for them.

“On behalf of the college community, our students, governors, teaching, associate staff, and especially from our dedicated Thurston Sixth team, I would like to congratulate all of our students and wish them every happiness and success in the future.”

Stowupland High School

The last set of students to finish sixth form at Stowupland High School are looking to the future after receiving their exam results this morning.

A total of 34 pupils took a mixture of A-level and BTech courses, with the majority heading to university or apprenticeships.

Principal Lee Walker said: “We are very proud of our Year 13 students who are picking up their results today.

“They are heading off to a variety of universities, colleges and apprenticeships and their results reflect the work they have done during their time here. I would like to thank all of the staff who have worked diligently to support the students throughout their time here.”

Mr Walker confirmed that this would be the last group of sixth form students at the high school.

He said: “We look forward to relaunching our sixth form in the very near future.”

It is hoped the relaunch will happen within the next five years.

Mildenhall College Academy

Students and staff at Mildenhall College Academy are absolutely delighted after the school celebrated record A-level results.

At the academy, 46 per cent of students achieved top grades of A*-B and 43 per cent of students secured a distinction or distinction* across a range of vocational subjects.

James Oxley, principal at the academy, said: “My colleagues and I are delighted and proud of our young people who have excelled to achieve fantastic results at MCA6.

“It is important to remember that these results are the culmination of years of hard work with a strong and proactive partnership between our families and MCA.

“They reflect the hard work of our students and the support from our parents and carers who must feel so proud today.”

Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham

Thomas Mills High School in Saxtead Road, Framlingham, is congratulating the achievements of its 113 A-level students who sat exams in 30 different subjects.

The school confirmed 76 per cent of pupils are set to move to higher education across the UK while others will go into apprenticeships, employment or gap years.

About 20 per cent of grades were awarded A* to A and about 70 per cent were A* to C.

Headteacher Philip Hurst said: “It’s pleasing to see tremendous progress across all grades.

“There are many students that we have been able to allow access to an academic education, and it is great seeing them achieve A-level success.

“This will open many doors. We are very proud of them and wish them well with their next steps.”

Thetford Academy

There is cause for celebration at Thetford Academy’s Thomas Paine Sixth Form as 80 per cent of the A-level grades they’ve received today are A*-C, the school’s best ever A-level outcomes.

The cohort of 46 students achieved an overall pass rate of 100 per cent.

The school said it had been an ‘incredible year’ of results for the sixth form and fantastic progress had been made by students there with 26 per cent of grades received at A*-A.

Michael Fordham, principal of Thetford Academy and its sixth form, Thomas Paine, said: “This has been an astonishing year of results for the Thomas Paine Sixth Form. We have a 100 per cent pass rate this year, and all of our students excelled in their qualifications.

“We have seen a significant uptick this year in students successfully gaining places at Russell Group universities as a consequence of our Gregson Scholars programme, funded by Balliol College, Oxford.

“All our students gained their first-choice university place, with students heading off to study everything from aerospace engineering to fine art.”
