"I know this cohort of students very well as I started here at St Benedict's in September as their Head of Sixth Form and I am incredibly proud of all that they have achieved."

Liam Gallagher, 18, of Bury St Edmunds, achieved three A*s and an A and will be starting at Imperial College London in September to study Mathematics and Computer Science.

Other high achievers include Frankie Wright and Millie Eddy, both 18 and from Bury, who achieved one A* and two As and two A*s and one A respectively.

"I'm ecstatic. It feels like a massive weight has been lifted off my shoulders," said Frankie, who is going to Oxford to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics.

"I honestly can't wait to start at Oxford. It's going to be incredible. Being amongst the best academics in the world for my subject and getting to discuss and debate it with people who know so much about it will be fantastic. There's so much to look forward to."

Millie, who is going to the University of Leeds to study Economics, added: "I'm so shocked because I really wasn't expecting it.

"I haven't even thought about moving to Leeds until now because I didn't want to jinx it but it feels a bit more real now. I'm nervous but more than anything I'm excited."
