A14 closures will continue eastbound throughout evening after lorry fire causes huge tailbacks

Traffic is starting to move again on the A14 at Bury St Edmunds after a lorry fire early this afternoon.

Miles of tailbacks built up - causing knock-on queues into the town - after 500 litres of fuel was spilled and 40 metres of the safety barrier damaged.

The westbound carriageway at J43 reopened just after 4pm but Highways England say the eastbound road will remain closed throughout this evening and into the early hours as it will need resurfacing.

Roads chiefs closed the A14 between J42 and J43 earlier, while crews dealt with the fire.

Reader Stuart Whiting took this picture from the Tesco on St Saviour's Interchange of the fire on the overhead carriageway earlier today.
