An agricultural and country life show brought the smiles for a day of daredevil shows, farm demonstrations and live music.

The South Suffolk Show returned for its 136th year yesterday at Ampton Racecourse, near Bury St Edmunds.

The event welcomed thousands of visitors as crowds gathered at the grand ring to watch performances from The Imps Motorcycle Display Team, known for their military-style drills and stunts as well as 4 Strides Equestrian UK who wowed with their high-speed barrel racing.

Visitors enjoyed everything from pig racing and gun dog demonstrations to a live forge with working farriers. Vintage and modern farm machinery was also on display, alongside high-flying tricks from the 3 Sixty Bicycle Stunt Team.

Show secretary Suzy Stennett said: “We were lucky with the weather — it was around 23 degrees and sunshine all day, absolutely glorious.

“The amazing weather really brought the crowds out in force – we were not far off record numbers.

“Everyone seemed to have a really lovely day and the feedback so far has been fantastic.

“A huge thank you goes to all our volunteer stewards and the organisations who help make the day run smoothly, as well as our generous sponsors — we’re so grateful for all their support.

“We’re really pleased with how everything went and we’re already talking about plans for next year.”

A wide selection of artisan eats were on offer in the food hall while the lifestyle marquee showcased products from Suffolk traders.

Dogs were made welcome too with a fun dog show run by Pooch’s Yard — featuring categories such as waggiest tail and shiniest coat.

This year’s show president was Rose Turner, whose family have hosted the event since 1986.

Mrs Turner celebrated Suffolk’s iconic heavy horses with a ‘Suffolk Spectacular’ in collaboration with the Suffolk Horse Society — highlighting the animals' place in the county’s heritage.
