Abusive Stowmarket man, 20, given 12 month community order

A Stowmarket man has been given a community order after threatening another and sending abusive messages to police.

Annan Ricketts, 20, of Jubilee Avenue, was described by his own counsel as being unsuccessful in his ‘gang’ lifestyle as he was ‘living on benefits’.

He had previously admitted using threatening words or behaviour to cause harassment, and sending eight abusive phone messages. Both offences happened in Stowmarket last June.

In Ipswich Magistrates’ Court today, chairman of magistrates Michael Sweeting handed him a 12 month community order.

This will see him attend 25 days of rehabilitation.

He will also pay a £120 fine and a £95 surcharge.

Mr Sweeting said: “Maybe this will stop you from doing things like this in the future, you might find you learn something. S*** happens, but you have to detach yourself from it.”

Mr Kendall, representing Ricketts, said: “He is keen to go into some sort of employment, to save money and move out of the family home.”
