Alice illustrates talent in new book
An illustration student from Rattlesden has been given her first commission for a new book.
Alice Bucksey, 19, who has the pseudonym alice b, is currently in the first year of her BA in Illustration at Leeds Arts University.
She said: “I studied Fine Art at Level Three for two years at West Suffolk College but found my true enjoyment came through communicating and telling stories with my drawings and so narrowed my skills to an illustrative outlook.”
The ex-King Edward VI School student got the project after meeting author, Brian Moore, at the 50th Great Dorset Steam Fair.
Alice said: “I came to know Brian a few years back during a visit to the fair, but it was only this summer that we caught up once more and after seeing my progression as an illustrator I was lucky enough to be commissioned by him for his upcoming story ‘Buzz’.”
The book tells the story of a nine-year-old boy’s attempt to walk from his village in Suffolk to London in 1949 and the author described Alice’s work as ‘exceptional and worthy of wider recognition’.
Alice said though she was nervous and naturally excited to showcase Mr Moore’s style and imagery, it was a taste of home that inspired her.
She said: “I felt connected to the story and was able to visualise it well from the beginning as it is set in my home village.”
