Coronavirus: All the events cancelled across Suffolk




The spread of coronavirus has led to the cancellation or postponement of a number events in Suffolk.

Several events have been called off due to the epidemic.

Here is a list to which we will continue to add cancelled and postponed events.

Events cancelled or postponed so far

March -April

All fixtures for chess clubs involved in the Suffolk League and Bury League have been suspended. Decision to be kept under review with a possible restart in the summer.

The guided tours and quizzes in Bury St Edmunds in April and May being organised by John Saunders of St Edmund’s Church to raise funds for good causes for Abbey 1000 have been suspended.

March 15

Rotary Club of Bury St Edmunds Swimarathon postponed.

The Guildhall in Bury St Edmunds closed - it will post updates on future Guildhall events on its Twitter account @GuildhallBSE.

From March 17

All Slimming World groups are cancelled for two weeks.

March 18

Suffolk Family History Society meeting on March 18 has been cancelled.

March 19

Suffolk County Council has cancelled the meeting of Full Council.

March 20

Unitarian Meeting House Bury St Edmunds birthday party cancelled and to be rescheduled for the summer, possibly in June.

BurySOUND 2020 final has been postponed.

March 21

Ixworth Festival of Cake has been cancelled.

March 27

Zumbathon in aid of Butterfly Appeal at CurveMotion is cancelled.

March 30-April 4

Irving Stage Company's production of Chicago is postponed to a future date to be confirmed.

April 15

Suffolk Family History Society meeting on April 15 has been cancelled.

May 7

Local elections have also been postponed for a year.

May 16

Greene King IPA 7's Tournament at Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club postponed

May 17

St Nicholas Hospice Care Paws in the Park family dog show at Nowton Park postponed until further notice.

The hospice has decided, with immediate effect, to postpone fundraising events that gather large groups and/or results in increased contact with vulnerable people. These measures will be in place until 31 May and regularly reviewed.

May 24 & 25

The Our Bury St Edmunds Whitsun Fayre, which was planned for over the late spring bank holiday has been cancelled.

June 8 to 13

The Women's Tour cycle race, which was due to end in Suffolk for the first time since 2014, has been postponed. Click here for more details.
