Greene King team reach £13,500 target after 400-mile cycle ride from Scotland to Bury St Edmunds for Macmillan Cancer Support
A group of Greene King members have reached their £13,500 target after a 400-mile cycle ride from Scotland to Suffolk.
Seven members started their journey on October 4 from Greene King’s Belhaven Brewery in Dunbar and returned to the Westgate Brewery in Bury St Edmunds on Friday to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The group, which included Pete Wood, Leah Bevan, Jack Palmer, Stuart Lloyd, Sam Mitchell, Richard Farrow and Paul King, travelled 455 miles from brewery to brewery.
The team set up the challenge with the aim to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and £13,735 has now been raised on the JustGiving fund-raiser, overtaking the goal of £13,500.
Leah Bevan, senior human resources business partner at Greene King, said: “'It was an epic challenge for an incredible cause and we are so proud of the money we have raised.
“It’s something I would conquer again tomorrow knowing that we are helping to support those that need it most.”
Peter Wood, head of manufacturing at Greene King, added: “We had such a brilliant team and we supported each other each step of the way, through punctures and rain and we also had other team members give up their time to drive with us and keep us fed and watered.
“It was an experience I will never forget and thank you again to everyone who has donated to the challenge and we are proud to have raised such an incredible amount for Macmillan Cancer Trust.”
