Apache flypast to celebrate Armed Forces week

The Armed Forces week events continued yesterday (Thursday) with an Apache flypast.

A sunset ceremony parade kicked off the events in Bury involving the Navy, Army Air Corps, the RAF and USAF, this included an Apache flypast over Angel Hill.

Other events for the Armed Forces week include a free family day tomorrow, in the Abbey Gardens from 11am until 4pm.

The family day will include displays from throughout the ages, historical exhibitions, activities, military vehicles, fun fair rides, live music, a climbing wall, face painting and refreshments.

Residents of Bury are warned that there will be several loud bangs and noises throughout the day.

St Edmundsbury Borough Councillor, Robert Everitt said: "From the sunset parade on Thursday to the free event at the Abbey Gardens on Saturday and the ticketed concert that evening there will be something for all the family that will not only be entertaining and informative but moving as well.

"We are currently home to many UK and US service personnel who are our neighbours and friends as well as having strong ties to the Navy through HMS Vengeance. Our communities have always prided themselves in welcoming and supporting the armed forces, both past and present."

In the evening there will be an Armed Forces Day concert by the Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra from 7:30pm at the Apex.
