Bury St Edmunds author wins medal at international book awards





A Bury St Edmunds author is celebrating after winning a bronze medal in the 2021 Reader’s Favorite Book Award Contest for her novel, Battle Ground.

The first book in a seven-part series written by Rachel Churcher, Battle Ground is a young adult dystopia set in a totalitarian UK, after Brexit and Scottish Independence.

Though the contest is based in the US, it is open to authors from all over the world and Battle Ground took the medal in the Young Adult – Action category.

Rachel said: "I started writing the series in 2017 as a reaction to the Brexit vote, and it is wonderful to discover that readers are connecting with my characters, and with the story."

This is not the first time Rachel’s novel has won an international prize.

In 2020, ‘Battle Ground’ was also awarded a bronze medal in the UK-based Wishing Shelf Book Awards.
