Battle Ground series author Rachel Churcher releases final book before Brexit day

A bestselling Bury St Edmunds author said she faced a race against time to complete her five book series before Brexit.

Rachel Churcher, of Garland Street, has already topped the Amazon chart for young adult/action adventure genre with titles in her Battle Ground series.

With much of the dystopian future thriller set around the context of Brexit, Rachel was keen to release the final instalments before the UK leaves the EU.

Rachel Churcher now has five titles in her Battle Ground series.

The fifth Battle Ground title Victory Day was released earlier this month through Rachel’s own imprint Taller Books. It concludes a story of British teenagers who are caught up in a futuristic war.

“I was told by an agent in 2018 it would take two or three years to publish the book, and with the political climate who knows what could happen in that time,” said Rachel.

“I wanted to publish as much of the series as possible before Brexit, which forms the backdrop to the politics in the Battle Ground series.

“The publishing schedule for the series has been intense. All five books were written before I started releasing them, but I've worked on rewrites and edits as well as publishing and publicity over the last six months.

“With a six-week turnaround for each book, this has been much more than a full-time job!”

Rachel was a magazine writer before turning to fiction full-time and said reaction to the series has been ‘amazing’.

“I'm looking forward to taking a break, now that the final book has been published,” she added.

Rachel Churcher runs a young adult book club in the Waterstones in Buttermarket, Bury St Edmunds, which will be hosting guest author Josh Winning on Sunday, February 2 from 2.30pm.
