Beck Row church awarded £45,000 grant





A Beck Row church has been awarded a £45,000 grant to improve its exterior and interior.

Kay Sallis applied for the Garfield Weston Anniversary Fund and was astonished that out of 2,300 national applicants Beck Row Methodist Church was donated the money.

Kay said: “I cried when I heard we got the grant. It was overwhelming. I thought there was no way we were going to get the grant.”

Project manager, Raymond Flatt has been keeping a diary of all the work that has gone on in and outside the church.

Planned works for the church include, the driveway being improved, a gate which has been donated by members of the travelling community, new carpets, a new boiler and hot water, new windows for the vestry and improvements to the grounds of the church.

The grant which is celebrating 60 years since it was first set up by Garfield Weston who built a successful international business empire. To celebrate this, the fund decided to give away £5 million nationally for churches and places of worship.

A concert is also being held to celebrate once all of the changes and improvements have been made to the church, this is being held by an American classical singer from the US base.
