Bid to retain driver training school at Heath Farm Business Centre, in Tut Hill, Fornham All Saints, which received several objections withdrawn

A bid to retain a driver training school in a village which received several objections has been abandoned.

The proposals from RC Browne and Son would have seen unused parking space at Heath Farm Business Centre, in Tut Hill, Fornham All Saints, converted to form the learning facility.

The space is already in use by Smart Driving Group, predominantly for ‘Ride Smart’ motorcycle training, but also for ‘Drive Smart’ one to one car training.

The plans came about as enforcement action taken determined consent was needed for a change of use to continue using the space as a training area.

The car park was previously used as an extension to the business centre spaces but, due to changes in tenancies and requirements, it was no longer required under its existing use.

The proposals would have retained the storage and classroom containers already on the site.

Fornham All Saints Parish Council twice objected to the application.

It said, while the council had no major issue with the site and its proposed use, it had concerns over highways safety.

It regarded the site as unsafe due to poor visibility splays in both directions off Tut Hill.

There were other objections from users of the Heath Farm Business Centre.

They raised issues with the noise created by a fuel generator, motorbikes being left idling for extended periods, and no safety barriers between the car park and neighbouring buildings.

They also echoed the concerns of the parish council of the entry onto Tut Hill.

The plans were dropped yesterday.

A reason for the withdrawal was not given.
