Boost for Bury St Edmunds town centre as furniture company Sofas & Stuff to open showroom at long empty shop

A furniture company is to open a showroom at a long-empty large shop in Bury St Edmunds town centre.

Sofas & Stuff is due to launch its 18th showroom in the former Laura Ashley at The Lexicon, in Cornhill.

The company specialises in bespoke furniture, handmade in Britain and has showrooms across the country.

A notice on the window said the shop will be opening soon and they were hiring for showroom manager and design consultant vacancies.

Laura Ashley closed in 2018 after three decades in the town and the empty unit was used as a Christmas pop-up shop the following year.

In a tweet, Mark Cordell, chief executive of Our Bury St Edmunds, said it was 'great' to see another long term vacant unit in the town centre occupied.

He thanked commercial agents Eddisons.

A new tenant could also soon be moving into the former Betfred at the corner of Cornhill and Woolhall Street as the premises is under offer.
