Replacement of A1088 Bridge Farm Bridge in Stowlangtoft begins with five-month road closure

Works to replace a Suffolk bridge have started with a five-month road closure in place.

The project on the A1088 Bridge Farm Bridge, in Stowlangtoft, began yesterday and will continue until December 20.

A road closure is in place along the A1088 between the junction with The Street, in Stowlangtoft, and Sandy Lane, in Grimestone End.

Suffolk Highways said traffic will be diverted via the A1088, A14, A143 and vice versa.

It said all businesses in Norton will be open as usual.

Suffolk Highways said consultations have taken place with community representatives, who expressed concerns about roads being used to bypass the closure, without using the official diversion route.

To prepare these routes for a higher volume of traffic, repair and vegetation works were due to be carried out before the closure started.

Temporary advisory speed limits will be implemented on several of the routes.

Speaking to SuffolkNews last month, community leaders and residents gave a mixed verdict on the closure.
