BT Openreach issue statement following cable thefts in Thurston and Pakenham
BT Openreach have issued a statement after fibre cable was stolen in Thurston leaving customers without phone and broadband services for two days.
A large amount of fibre cable was stolen from Barton Road in the village on Tuesday.
Following the theft, residents reported no phone signal.
A spokesperson for BT Openreach said they were 'disappointed' people in the village 'bore the brunt of criminal behaviour'.
"More than 450 metres of our underground cable was stolen earlier this week, and the network badly damaged," they said.
"This caused disruption to local phone and broadband services.
"Engineers worked quickly to repair the damage, and had everyone reconnected within 48 hours.
"We urge people to report any suspicious activity that they spot around any of our infrastructure to the police."
Around 300 metres of cable was taken from a duct in Thurston Road, Pakenham, between 7.30pm on Monday and 6.50am on Tuesday as well.
The theft is believed to be linked to another in Thurston Road which took place between 5pm on March 29 and 7am on March 30.
It involved the theft of an underground cable.
Police are appealing for anyone with information relating to the three thefts to contact them on 101.
