Bury St Edmunds construction business wins Residential Building Firm of the Year Award for Suffolk

A construction business based in Bury St Edmunds is celebrating after winning the Residential Building Firm of the Year Award 2022 for Suffolk.

ADCO Construction beat several other Suffolk companies to win the award, part of the London and South East England Prestige Awards, which recognise small and medium-sized businesses that have proved to be the best in their market over the past 12 months.

The company, which was set up in 2017, carries out extensions, renovations, conversions and commercial fit-outs, including for West Suffolk Council.

Hass Laoukili, managing director, said: “When we got to the stage of actually being recognised and winning the award, it felt great. I was overwhelmed with joy that our achievements are being recognised and that we are doing the right thing.”

Hass has grown the company alongside commercial director and cousin, Anour Krich, from their first job building a small wall to fitting out a London property.

Previously working for Skanska, an award-winning construction company, Hass had a wealth of experience in construction and management, but had not run a business before.

Since then, the duo’s drive and determination has helped the company turn over £1 million last year and are on track to turn over
£2 million this year, having already secured over £1 million so far.

Currently, ADCO Construction is working on extending the ground floor function room of the Thomas Paine Hotel, in Thetford, converting an old barn built in 1899 at Doveden Hall, and is set to commence work renovating a property in York Road, Bury.

The company has also worked with West Suffolk Council, stripping derelict warehouses and turning them into brand new office spaces and converting an old garage in St Andrew’s Street, Bury, to offer vulnerable people without homes a place to stay.

“We try to give back to the community through West Suffolk Council,” Hass said.

“We want to be recognised as a company that does help the community and we want to create more opportunities to do that.”
