Burglars flee Bury St Edmunds property in Mayfield Road after being disrupted by residents

Two burglars who broke into a Bury St Edmunds home escaped after they were interrupted by the residents returning home.

Police were called to Mayfield Road at about 12.35pm on Monday following a report of a burglary in progress.

The burglars had forced their way in at the back of the property and were disturbed by the residents as they returned home.

The two men fled on foot in the direction of Heron Road.

The first was described as being of slim build, about 5ft 10ins in height, in his early 30s and wearing black tracksuit bottoms, a grey hoody with blue writing across the chest and the hood worn up.

The second was of slim build and similar height, and was wearing black tracksuit bottoms with a black hoody which he wore with the hood up.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity, or a suspicious vehicle in the area, or who know the identities of those involved.
