Bury has more than a month’s rainfall in 24 hours

Last night’s rain made yesterday the wettest 24 hours in Bury St Edmunds since September 15, 1968.
Bury weather recorder Alan Messem logged 58.6mm – 4.6mm more than the East Anglian average for June.
Alan said: “It was all after 18 days with only 0.5mm, after a record June heatwave from the 17th to 21st.”
The Met office said the highest rainfall recorded yesterday in East Anglia was 90.2mm at Santon Downham making it the wettest summers day since records began there in 1960.
The rain was expected to clear the region this morning and not return for the rest of the week, though it will remain cloudy.
Flood alerts have been issued for the Rivers Bure and Glaven in north Norfolk.
