Bury St Edmunds: Independents Week campaign ties in with widespread reopenings
Independents Week will begin in Bury St Edmunds on Monday, June 29, in time for a swathe of reopenings.
The tenth drive led by the Our Bury St Edmunds business improvement district will again champion the town's retailers on social media.
By a coincidence, the usual Independents Day - named after American Independence Day - falls on July 4 when pubs, restaurants, and other venues reopen.
Mike Kirkham, marketing and business support officer, said: “I am so glad that many of our independent businesses will be allowed to open for all or at least part of this year’s Independents Week.
"A couple of months ago we were in a very different situation.
"Campaigns like this have a critical role in helping small businesses bounce back from the difficulties of lockdown."
Shops in Bury are adapting to make sales possible by independents week by implementing call and collect initiatives.
Mr Kirkham said the tough financial impact the Covid-19 has had on independent retailers makes customer support even more important.
He added: "Spending just a few pounds with an independent business can make a huge difference and in Bury St Edmunds we have a wealth of them."
