Yorkshire couple Sue and Tom Sykes' search for Bury St Edmunds home featured on Channel 4's Location, Location, Location last night
A retired couple searching for a new home near Bury St Edmunds were the subject of last night's episode of Channel 4's Location, Location, Location.
Sue and Tom Sykes, who hail from Holmfirth in West Yorkshire, had made the decision to move 150 miles to Suffolk to be closer to Sue's daughter Rebecca, who lives in London with her son Freddie.
The programme, which was filmed in July, saw presenter Phil Spencer take the couple on a whistle-stop tour of four properties throughout Suffolk and Norfolk, including ones in West Row and Alpheton.
Their search got off to a good start with a three bedroom property in Ickburgh, but it was at the final property in the village of Rede that Sue and Tom, both in their late 60s, really felt at home.
"It was a really good experience going on the show. The crew were fantastic and Phil Spencer was a real gentleman," said Sue.
"We would never have even looked at this house on our own because it wasn't what we had in our minds.
"We had a vision and this wasn't it. But it's just one of those things - you walk in not expecting to like it and then just think 'this is right'."
Seven months since moving in and after four months of renovations, the pair are finally adding the finishing touches to their new home.
"We've done an awful lot of work on the house and it's completely different to the one on the programme but that's the reason we bought it - because we knew it could be made into exactly what we wanted," said Sue.
"We're very happy with how it's all turned out and we're excited to start work on the garden now because it needs completely re-done."
And despite Tom describing the move from his beloved Yorkshire as a 'wrench', the couple are now starting to settle in to the 'beautiful' Suffolk way of life.
"We've been so focused on the house that we haven't even been able to see much of the area at all," said Sue.
"Tom has seen more than me because he has been cycling around but I feel like I've only seen the inside of B&Q.
"Rede is a lovely little village and everyone has been very friendly and welcoming.
"Our plan now is to get out and start exploring the wider area. It's a lovely place and we're very happy."
