Bury St Edmunds GCSE results: County High School

GCSE students at County High School in Bury St Edmunds collected their exam results alongside their friends this morning.

A total of 168 pupils sat the exams, with headteacher Sally Kennedy saying the school had achieved the strongest set of results since the pandemic.

Dylan Rajayogan, of Bury, said he was particularly pleased with his results in science and maths.

The 16-year-old, who will swim with friends to celebrate, said he was ‘very happy’ with his three grade nines, three grade 8s, one grade 7, two grade 6s and one grade five.

Dylan said he felt ‘proud and relieved’ of what he had achieved and would be going on to study for his A-levels.

Jake Wooldrige, 16, of Bury, was one of County High’s highest achievers.

He said he felt ‘pretty good’ about his results: six grade 9s, two grade 8s and two grade 7s.

Jake, who enjoys maths, said he had been looking at the grade boundaries this morning and thought they seemed high.

He said: “I didn’t know what to expect.”

Jake will now go on to study at Abbeygate Sixth Form College, in Bury.

Sally Kennedy said: “We are very proud of the achievements of the class of 2025 as they have gone on to build upon previously established strong results.

“One of the most significant factors impacting on the outcomes of students is attendance.

“It is an area that all headteachers nationally are concerned about because we can see the impact that attending school has on the results that each child achieves and we know that this will impact on the opportunities available for each young person.”

She added: “It is very clear from our results this year, that the students who attend regularly and are in a good learning routine do exceptionally well at County High School.

“For this reason, we will continue to be ambitious for all of our students and prioritise working with students and their families to ensure that there are no barriers to them attending and going on to achieve their potential.”
