Bury St Edmunds firm Retrofitted launch Campervan hire service Up Sticks and Go
A company which fits out Campervan interiors is hoping demand continues in 2021 for their hire business.
Retrofitted Ltd in Risby, near Bury St Edmunds, started Up Sticks and Go towards the end of the first lockdown to give customers the chance to take out one of their two uniquely designed Volkswagen models for a break.
Mikey Ennis, company director, said the venture caught the imagination of holidaymakers who bought into the staycation popularity seen across the country.
He said: “We were just taking so many calls through the summer. That is normal for the industry but not last year. I think people contacted us because who wants to go to an airport right now? Who wants to go to a hotel?
“Our product serves the new ideal so well. The Campervan has two beds and solar panels providing power for you to charge your bits and bobs.
“The best part is that you can take it to a location of your choice for the perfect view.”
David Custance founded the company around four years ago and Mr Ennis joined at a later point with the business evolving. Central to their work is the unique designs of the interiors which they feel gives them the edge over other refitting companies.
Mr Ennis said: “The business is the same as before but a bit different as we are now offering the rental. People now have the option to try before they buy.
“It was going well over the summer but the new restrictions forced us to stop when October came.”
It has been an up and down year for Retrofitted who were one of several companies in the Symonds Farm estate to appeal for help.
Back in May, the Bury Free Press reported they had been missed off grant funding because of a technicality. After appealing the ruling they were able to claim for lifeline support.
The company offers three styles of fitting out Campervans, one in tribute to the classic Volkswagen interior and another two with a stylish U-shape design.
Retrofitted is also offering Campervans for sale.
Mr Ennis is hoping that in 2021 the business can pick up where it left off.
He added: “We are hoping things will be getting back into the spring and the summer, we are already taking bookings.
“We are passionate about the outdoors and we want to provide a product to best explore that.”
