Coronavirus: One million milestone passed globally as UK cases continue to rise

More than one million people are known to have caught the coronavirus that has spread around the world.

Figures in the UK have continued to rise, with a sobering 684 new deaths in the past day.

Despite these worrying facts, the number of new cases daily appears to be levelling out in Spain, Italy and the UK, with between 4,300 and 4,500 new cases having been reported in the UK on each of the past three days.

Distancing measures, which have since progressed to a full lockdown may be starting to take effect, although their impact may take several days longer to impact daily death rates.

Suffolk's cases numbers are rising by a similar number each day, having moved from 125 two days ago, to 161 today.

West Suffolk Hospital announced its sixth coronavirus related death yesterday.

Case numbers for the East of England stand at 2,384.
