How to book a place on open day at University and Professional Development Centre in Bury St Edmunds including tour of XR Lab
An open day at the University and Professional Development Centre in Bury St Edmunds will give visitors the chance to tour the centre’s newly-built Extended Reality (XR) Lab.
The free event, which is taking place tomorrow from 4.30pm to 6.30pm, is open to anyone of any age to find out about courses, funding and explore the University Studies at West Suffolk College campus.
During the occasion, visitors will also get the chance to have a look around the centre’s ‘state-of-the-art’ XR Lab, which was created with the aim of revolutionising education by teaching students new ways of learning.
Tom Lloyd, executive director of skills, innovation and strategic development at Eastern Education Group, which runs the centre, says the XR Lab ‘pushes the boundaries of traditional classroom learning’.
“The XR Lab is transforming how students learn with an immersive approach that deepens understanding and makes the learning itself more memorable, enjoyable and effective,” said Tom.
“XR technology allows you to dive into complex subjects, experiencing personalised, AI-driven content that adapts to your individual needs whilst gaining hands-on skills.
“With strong industry partnerships, you’ll not only learn, but also be prepared for real-world challenges in exciting fields like engineering, healthcare, and sustainability.”
Jake Mills, a former student of University Studies at West Suffolk College who now works as a technical developer and demonstrator in the XR Lab, said: “Studying in the XR Lab and working with its state-of-the-art equipment gave me the skills and experiences I needed to begin my career. I wouldn’t be where I am now if I hadn’t chosen to study there.”
Stuart Appleby, head of HE curriculum delivery at Eastern Education Group, is helping to organise the event.
Stuart said: “The open day will be a relaxed event which is open to anyone of any age and any educational background.
“It’s a chance for guests to chat to our expert tutors, tour our campus, try out the XR Lab and find out more about programmes, student support and funding.
“Whether you’re looking to study a degree, unlock your potential with an Access to Higher Education course, find an apprenticeship, brush up on your maths and English, gain skills to improve your job prospects, or study on a leisure learning programme, we can support your ambitions, whatever they might be.”
