Charity book is just the right tale for Carolyn
A West Row author has raised thousands of pounds for charity so far with her newest book about a dog’s adventure.
Carolyn Henderson, writer of Florence, Dog Detective: The Case of the Purple Poodle, wrote it to raise money for All Because of Freda, a charity that rehabilitates and re-homes dogs.
She said: “I met Karen Ledger (who runs the charity) through equestrian journalism and found out she raises a lot of money for rescue dogs and has a dog called Florence.
“Florence is well known on the All Because of Freda Facebook page as she gets up to all sorts of things and Karen asked if I would write a book about her and I thought- I could do that.”
This is the writer and journalist’s 42nd book and has already raised £2,000 for the charity.
Aimed at readers around eight years and upwards, though loved by adults, too, the book has sold copies in America, Australia, Canada, Cyprus and Switzerland as well as in the UK.
The novel tells the story of Florence’s search for her friend, Petunia the poodle, after she disappears but she soon finds herself up to her whiskers in trouble.
Carolyn said the best part of the project is that Karen has kept her updated with what she has used the money on, including saving a litter of puppies.
She said: “I am overwhelmed really and I feel a sense of achievement from it, seeing the good the money that is being raised is doing.”
Asked if Florence, Dog Detective, would be taking on a second adventure in the future, Carolyn said: “I would love to do some more, if enough people wanted it but we will see.”
Copies of Florence, Dog Detective: The Case of the Purple Poodle are £6 or £7.50 including P&P. For details about the book, go to the @allbecauseoffreda Facebook page or go to www.carolynhenderson.co.uk.
