Bury St Edmunds charity Relay for Life urges people to sign up

Fund-raisers for Relay for Life have been urging people to join their upcoming event later this year.

Cancer Research's Relay for Life at Nowton Park in Bury St Edmunds is set to go ahead across July 2 to July 3 despite being cancelled for the past two years due to the pandemic.

The event sees teams of family, friends or colleagues take part in a 24-hour relay race around a track.

There will also be a candle of hope ceremony in the evening where attendees can light a candle for someone who is living with cancer, for someone who has died, or for someone who has survived the disease.

Co-chair David Cianciola said this year more than ever is vitally important to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

He said: "This year’s Relay for Life is the most important one that we’ve had in Bury St Edmunds since it started.

"Cancer Research is looking at a reduction in fund-raising income, nationally, of £250million between 2020 and 2023.

"We really want people who’ve engaged with us before – people who’ve had teams or who are survivors to re-engage with us and take part this year," he added.

There will also be a Charity Golf Day at the Suffolk Golf Club at All Saints Hotel in Bury on May 10.
