Dentaid to return to Bury St Edmunds to help residents again with dental struggles
A dental charity is returning to Bury St Edmunds for two days next week to help those struggling to get seen through the NHS.
Dentaid, which offers free emergency dental clinics to people here and overseas, has already visited the town four times in the past two years, and are back having identified Bury St Edmunds as a location in dire need.
The visit has been funded by West Suffolk councillors, Cliff Waterman, Max Clarke and Diane Hind.
Cllr Hind said: "Until something is done at Government level to make a difference, to actually make some changes, to reform their contracts so that patients can access NHS dentists, then charities such as Dentaid will be in great demand.
"They can only see around 45-50 people each day so it is just a sticking plaster and meanwhile people are suffering incredible pain and resorting to pulling out their own teeth.
"Dentaid was set up to treat the likes of the homeless and those from third world. What an indictment that it has come to this in our country, let alone a prosperous town such as Bury St Edmunds."
The charity will be at New Bury Community Centre in Charles Place, on Tuesday and Wednesday, between 10am and 4pm, with a sit and wait service.
