Our Bury St Edmunds captures Christmas with film premiere
Our Bury St Edmunds has sprinkled a little bit of Christmas into our lives tonight after it premiered its festive film on social media.
Showcasing some of the town's businesses in an alternative celebration to the town’s lights switch-on, 'A Bury Merry Christmas' follows a little girl’s story of a magical Christmas in the town and features independent shops and larger brands as well as some landmarks.
Mark Cordell, chief executive of Our Bury St Edmunds Business Improvement District, said the aim of the film was to make the town a talking point and destination to visit for Christmas shopping or celebrations when hospitality venues reopen.
“When we knew we were not going to be able to hold our usual switch-on night the team at Our Bury St Edmunds wanted to do something more than just a virtual ceremony,” he said.
“When lockdown was announced we also wanted to be sure we weren’t doing anything that might encourage people to gather in the town thinking there would be something to see as the lights went on.”
The video was produced and directed by Bury-based Allegro Creative Agency after financial support from the town council.
The film kicks off Our Bury St Edmunds' 100 Day Campaign which, in partnership with the town's council, hopes to further raise the profile of the town and encourage as many people as possible to return and revisit once it reopens in under a fortnight.
This is just one of many initiatives, projects and activities that it will be putting in place before the end of February.
