Fairground rides, stilt walkers and Father Christmas himself were in Bury St Edmunds as the countdown to Christmas began today with the town's festive lights event.

Organised by Our Bury St Edmunds, which operates the Business Improvement District (BID), it offers a host of stalls and attractions in as Covid-safe an environment as possible.

The town’s decorative lights – including six brand new standalone illuminations are now on to allow crowds to visit all the different areas to view them as darkness starts to fall.

Mark Cordell, said: "We really wanted to do something different to celebrate Christmas and make it a bit special for 2021, which I feel we have.

"We hope people come down and enjoy this event, we have got so many great stalls here too and we were oversubscribed from charities, community groups and many other stall-holders, so come down and have a look."

The Our Bury St Edmunds Christmas Lights Event runs from 3pm to 8pm today.
