St Edmundsbury Cathedral cancels Christmas Fair to support 'stay at home' guidance

A Christmas fair planned at St Edmundsbury Cathedral for December 4 and 5 has been cancelled.

The decision was made to support the national lockdown.

Sarah Friswell, cathedral PR manager, said: "This is the appropriate course of action, as we play our part in helping to follow the 'stay at home’ guidance.

"We are grateful to the stallholders who had come forward to take part.

"We were looking forward to a very special event, but we know people will support the decision we have had to make."

All stallholders have been informed.

The cathedral had planned the two-day event as an alternative to the popular annual Bury St Edmunds Christmas Fayre, organised by West Suffolk Council.

That event was cancelled in March, when the first coronavirus lockdown started.

The latest lockdown runs until December 2.
