Church wall damaged in Bury St Edmunds

An incident where a wall was damaged at a Bury St Edmunds church is being investigated by police.

It is believed the incident occurred between midnight on Saturday, September 29 and 2pm on Sunday, September 30, in St John’s Street.

At some point during the times and dates stated, the wall in front of the St John's Centre was damaged with what may have been a vehicle.

It is not known if it was as a result of criminal damage or a road traffic collision.

Revd Canon Mark Haworth, Team Rector, said: "About a five metre stretch of the front wall is bowed and has affected the railings on top of it."

The repair to the wall, that will need to be demolished and rebuilt, has been quoted at around £4,500.

Canon Haworth, said: "It is just a great nuisance, the amount is not a king's ransom but someone should have been polite enough about their indiscretions to tell us."
