Application submitted for what was a hair salon in Wattisfield, near Diss, to become residential property

An ex-hairdressers in Suffolk will become a home if a planning application is approved.

An application for a closed-down hairdressers in Wattisfield, between Diss and Bury St Edmunds, to be used as a house was submitted last Thursday.

Mid Suffolk District Council plans to decide whether to approve the transition from business to residential use for the building that used to house The Cutting Cottage, near Diss Road, before the end of June.

The cover letter for the application by Philip Cobbold, agent for applicant Richard Winch, said: “The use of the building as a dwelling will have no material impact on highway safety or other transport considerations.

“Access to the building will be via the existing access to the site. Parking for the dwelling will take place in the area used for parking by customers of the former salon.

“The level of vehicle movements to and from the site will be less than was generated when the building was a hairdressers.”

The building is no longer being used as a hairdresser and has been vacant for at least three months.

The proposal does not involve changes to the exterior of the building, though upgrades would be made to comply with fire and sound regulations.
