A married couple organised a Macmillan coffee morning with a twist.

Jennie and Chris Simpkin hosted the fund-raiser in their home and garden in Great Barton.

It was their 11th annual coffee and cake celebration to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Jennie said: “It went very well indeed, we had over 100 people attend.

“We have raised £1,230 to date, we are expecting some more donations in but they haven’t arrived yet.”

As well as coffee and home-made cakes they also had classic cars on their front lawn with prizes including a ride of a hot rod.

Jennie and Chris have a tropical garden with a tropical style tree house which the coffee morning was held in.

Jennie said: “My husband decided that he would build a tree house as we had seen them on our holidays in Thailand.”

The coffee morning, which was on Saturday also included live music from Bury guitar club who played throughout the morning, a tombola and a raffle.

The event was open for anyone to attend as a community and is always held in the couples garden and house.

Jennie and Chris organise the annual morning as Jennie’s sister died of cancer 36 years ago.
