Love the Leaf launch cycling survey about cycling routes in Bury St Edmunds
Love the Leaf, a community of residents keen to live more sustainably, are launching a cycle survey asking residents what changes need to be made to cycling routes.
The survey is for residents of Bury St Edmunds and surrounding areas to share their thoughts on the current cycling provisions and what changes need to be made to make active travel more appealing.
Love the Leaf are working with Friends of the Earth and Parents for Future to campaign for improvements to current travel facilities.
The community groups are hoping for a large response to be able to spark a conversation with West Suffolk Council about cycle routes.
Holly Jackson, a campaigner for Love the Leaf said: "Based on Census data, 33% of emissions for West Suffolk are currently made up from transport.
"This is of significant concern and not only demonstrates just what a large impact our choice of travel has on our town, health, and the environment, but also shows just how big an opportunity there is to make a positive difference.
"According to 2021 YouGov national opinion polling, 71% of 781 people surveyed in West Suffolk believe we should all drive less.
"We would like to see the necessary infrastructure prioritised to support those wishing to safely cycle their children to school and commute themselves to places of work and leisure.
"If cyclists and pedestrians do not feel safe, then active travel fails to be an option," she added.
