Controversial plans to build 76 homes on land south of Sandlands Drive Marham Park Bury St Edmunds withdrawn by applicant
Controversial plans to build almost 80 new homes in Bury St Edmunds have been withdrawn by the applicant.
The plans, submitted by Countryside Properties, would have seen 76 homes built on land south of Sandlands Drive, Marham Park.
These were met with concerns from Bury St Edmunds Town Council, who felt there was insufficient information and lack of justification regarding flooding and over-development in the area.
The town council also highlighted concerns around a lack of leisure provision as part of the application.
Suffolk County Council, as Lead Local Flood Authority, recommended an objection to plans due to issues with drainage.
More than 100 residents also submitted comments to West Suffolk Council voicing their concerns. They cited worries with local schools and leisure facilities, concerns with traffic and issues with parking, amongst others.
Countryside Properties submitted an environmental impact assessment (EIA) screening request to West Suffolk Council for the two-hectare plot in the summer of 2021.
On Friday January 20, the decision was made to withdraw the planning application.
