Coronavirus testing opens on Olding Road, Bury St Edmunds

A new walk-through Covid-19 test centre has opened in Bury St Edmunds.

The centre, in Olding Road, was due to open on Saturday, but a resident was turned away and told it would instead be opening today.

Testing at the site is available for those with symptoms of Covid-19.

The new centre will be open from 8am until 8pm.

The Olding Road site is one of three local walk-through sites in Suffolk, with the others located in Ipswich and Lowestoft.

Appointments will be available from 8am until 8pm.

Jenny Harries, chief executive of UK Health Security Agency, said: "This new walk-through site is part of our ongoing work to make it even easier for people who need a PCR test to get one.

“If you have developed a new continuous cough, a high temperature or a loss or change in sense of smell or taste, or you are asked or advised to get a test, please book one and follow any advice you’re given.

“As we return to a more familiar way of life, testing, and isolating when necessary, remain a vital way of controlling the spread of the virus and protecting one another.”
