Woolpit Steam rally, near Bury St Edmunds, to return on June 1 and 2




A popular rally showcasing vintage steam engines, tractors and agricultural machinery from a bygone era is set to return in June.

Woolpit Steam rally will be held on June 1 and 2 at Warren Farm, in Wetherden, IP14 3JX, by permission of R & P Baker.

The 2023 rally raised a record £30,000 which was donated to local charities and community groups.

In total, Woolpit Steam has so far raised more than £330,000.

The event is probably best known for its pre-1930 tractor display which rivals many of the largest shows in the country, with around 20 examples on show again this year.

A further 70 tractors built before 1965 are anticipated and 80 displays are expected in the the stationary engine section, with several being over 100 years old.

Many will be presented doing what they were originally designed for by driving an array of mills, pumps, dynamos and other machinery.

It includes the Bamford line shafting display where one engine is powering multiple machines for preparing feed for livestock.

Visitors can experience the roar of the mighty Caterpillar D8 bulldozer which will be demonstrating its power and performance leveling soil.

Other exhibits on show will include full size steam engines including examples of showman’s engines, and agricultural engines.

Vintage cars, motorcycles, commercial and military vehicles are all represented.

Gates are open from 9am to 5pm on both days.

Admission is adults £8 Saturday / £9 Sunday and children £2 on either day.

Car parking is free and the show is accessible from junction 47a on the A14 eastbound, or junction 49 westbound.
