Crumbs in Bury St Edmunds opens doors as it relocates to prominent town centre shop
A desserts business which yesterday moved into a prominent town centre shop has already seen a huge increase in trade.
Crumbs relocated from High Baxter Street, Bury St Edmunds, where it had been based just over a year, to the former Auntie Pam’s Sweet Shop, in The Traverse.
Owner Ben Hutton, who also runs Queen’s Bar and Grill in Churchgate Street, said that move has allowed his team to bake goods on-site including cheesecakes, cookies, brownies and cakes – with a selection of gluten free options.
Ben said: “Although we were not that far away before, it does feel massively different to have a constant foot traffic pass us, and have more of town presence. We were a bit more tucked away before.
“We didn’t know what to expect, but we had a very busy first couple of days, which is nice.
“We noticed a massive increase of customers straight away. All our regular customers have come to check out the shop, but there is a lot of people that have never heard of us.
“We’ve had visits from lots of new customers, and the biggest comments are: looks pretty and smells good.”
Crumbs was established in 2021 as on online shop, with products baked at Queen’s.
Relocating has allowed for the team to bake goods onsite as well as to be open on Wednesdays to catch the market day trade.
Customers can also make bookings for those specials occasions.
The shop is opened from Wednesday to Sunday, from 10.30am to 4pm.
Ben added: “Our things are very tasty. It’s nice to support independent because we care about the product.
“You know that everything is freshly made on-site.
“We use free range eggs, Belgium chocolate, so there is no shortcut to make sure we have a delicious end product.”
