Developer defends opposed plans for houses
A developer has defended controversial plans for 52 new homes in Lakenheath.
Lord’s Walk Sarl wants to build the two and three bedroom homes on sites off Earlsfield Road and Maple, Pine, Myrtle and Apple Closes on the Lord’s Walk estate next to RAF Lakenheath.
The plan has received 31 objections from residents who say there are already empty homes on the estate, the proposals would result in a loss of green space for children and dog walkers and there are a lack of amenities in the area.
The developer has previously lodged other applications to build houses on the estate - bringing the total to 79.
Amie Wood, of Lancewood Walk on the estate, who is objecting to the plans, told the Bury Free Press: “We got our plot because of the green space. My children play out all of the time, it was perfect for us. Neighbours have said the same, they have two children and the green space was the reason why they bought there’s as well.”
In Mrs Wood’s objection she said: “Having moved to the area almost three years ago, we were told that there would be parks built on the green spaces, that this would be a great place for the children, the green spaces would be developed for the community, this has clearly been a lie to sell the houses off.
“We love the open green spaces, it’s safe and open. Placing more houses up will just make the area over built, noisy and dangerous.”
However, Josh Woolliscroft, spokesman for Lord’s Walk Sarl, said: “Not all of the green space is being built on. Improvements to the central green spaces as a long-term community facility are being made which is to include enhanced planting, additional trees, the installation of play facilities and additional bins for dog and general waste.
“We estimate that all the properties will be sold by September - 80 per cent to owners and 20 per cent to the rental market.”
