West Suffolk Council to discuss option of building in Great Barton and Rougham
Discussions are set to be held into a proposal to build homes on sites in Great Barton and Rougham.
Next week, West Suffolk Council’s cabinet will consider the expanded business plan of Barley Homes – a company it owns and which has already started work on 63 homes across two projects in Haverhill.
Last year, councillors agreed to give an extra £5.3 million to Barley Homes for the company to build 118 homes on sites near Bury St Edmunds and Mildenhall.
Now the cabinet will mull over the possibility of giving another £1.75 million for the provision of further housebuilding.
Public documents state the possibility of building 13 homes in Rougham, as well as developing a site in Great Barton. It is not yet confirmed where the projects could take shape or how many houses could be built in Great Barton.
Extra funding would take the total pledged to Barley to £14.25 million.
The council hopes the spend will provide a longer-term gain for its finances. Report papers state this investment could deliver a one-off return of up to £3.8 million in interest receipts and dividends.
The cabinet’s decision on Tuesday, December 8, is likely to pre-empt a future discussion in full council.
