Bury St Edmunds nostalgia - twin Mortal Kombat gamers jet off to Las Vegas for Xbox world championships
In April 2012, a passport delay meant that twins, Jake and Ryan Neal, missed out on a trip to Chicago when Ryan became the European champion of the Xbox game, Mortal Kombat.
But it turned out for the better because instead of going to the windy city to meet the game’s creators, the then 19-year-old twins from Bury St Edmunds were going to be travelling to Las Vegas for the Evolution World Games Championships. It featured championships of five games, including Mortal Kombat.
Jake said: "This prize works out better for us. Because we’ve both played Mortal Kombat competitively, this is really beneficial to us. It's also the chance to take part in a world championship."
The pair planned to meet up in Vegas with USAF personnel from RAF Mildenhall who were also keen players.
Ryan's winning-streak started with success in an in-store competition which was one of eight held internationally.
That took him to a UK final at the Gadget Show Live in Birmingham and he won the European title the year before.
