Drivers face a 13-mile diversion as Nowton Road, Bury St Edmunds, set to close for repairs
Drivers will face a 13-mile diversion as a key town route is set to close for repairs for three days next week.
Suffolk Highways has said repairs and maintenance works will be take place in Nowton Road, Bury St Edmunds, from Tuesday, April 30 until Thursday May 2.
The work will be carried out between 9.30am until 3pm, meaning the road will be closed during this time with a diversion route in place of around 13 miles.
The county council said: “Footway resurfacing works will be taking place along Nowton Road.
“During this time, the road will be closed to ensure the safety of highway users and our operatives.
“For the duration of the closure, traffic will be diverted via A1302, A134 Sicklesmere Rd, Bury Road, Cooper Lane, Nowton Road and vice versa.
The diversion will pass through the nearby villages of Hawstead, Lawshall and Shimpling.
A spokesperson confirmed the road will reopen at 3pm each day.
