EDITOR’S COMMENT: Impact of dualled A11 will be massive
When I joined the Bury Free Press in 2000, there was talk of the A11 being dualled. It was about time, I remember thinking back then. After all, it had been 30 years in the pipeline.
Fast forward to late 2014 and, finally, the stretch of road between Thetford and Barton Mills is open as a dual carriageway.
Richard Spring, as he was back then, introduced me both to the way a great constituency MP should campaign for his electors but also to the immense value an upgraded A11 would bring to the region.
It was fitting, therefore, that he was at the official unveiling on Friday as Lord Risby and able to see his labours bear fruit.
And what a legacy he has left for East Anglia.
Firms large and small will have a fairer playing field on which to do business and I hope our cutting-edge entrepreneurs will view the new A11 as a massive opportunity for further regional prosperity.
