EDITOR’S COMMENT: Keep us in touch with the news, Colin

I breathed a sigh of relief when I heard Cllr Colin Noble had been chosen as the new leader of the Conservative group on Suffolk County Council.

Sitting as I do in the heart of St Edmundsbury’s power base in Bury St Edmunds, I know of the accusations from towns such as Haverhill who maintain that Bury gets the major share of any cash going, even if that’s not the case.

In county terms, there is a sense from west of the county that Ipswich is the real focus – so a potential leader from our neck of the woods in Lakenheath is something to salute.

I have never met Cllr Noble so cannot comment on the man but the challenges the county authority face are vast in terms of savings allied to user expectation.

As with anything, communication is vital. Even bad news, if handled honestly and openly, is palatable. And with the economy and purse strings as they are currently, there is bound to be some of that to come in the next few months from Endeavour House.
