EDITOR’S COMMENT: Let’s give Le Tour a run for its money
Few sporting spectacles in 2014 could rival the end stage of the Women’s Tour, which speeded into town with townsfolk and visitors thronging our streets.
What a coup then for Bury St Edmunds to be chosen to launch the 2015 competitors on five days of road racing through our leafy lanes and towns.
June 17 offers canny traders and entrepreneurs – not to mention our hoteliers and B&B owners – the chance to cash in. More than that, June 17 offers our council and our civic officials the chance to once again show off Bury St Edmunds in all its glory.
Now we need to engender some joined-up thinking. The 2015 elections will be well over (thankfully) so the focus can be on pulling together all the many strands of the opportunities on offer and capitalising on these for West Suffolk.
Cycling will be the big winner again but wouldn’t it be nice if our little corner of Suffolk gave Le Tour a real run for its money.
