Coronavirus: Elderly to benefit from Suffolk County Council bus pass changes

Elderly and disabled people will be able to use their concessionary bus passes at earlier times, Suffolk County Council announced today.

Previously, these passes could only be used from 9.30am once the morning rush hour had cleared, but now they can be used on early morning services too.

The change was announced in the wake of Sainsbury's and Iceland's decision to open their doors to elderly and vulnerable people for an hour each morning before other customers arrived.

Councillor Andrew Reid, Suffolk County Council’s Cabinet Member responsible for Highways, Transport and Rural Affairs, said: "I’m very grateful to our bus companies in Suffolk who have worked with us to extend the use of bus passes on their services before 9.30am. This is something that will be extremely helpful during a time when some shops are opening for periods specifically for the older generation and the most vulnerable to support them during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic."
